Teeth Whitening Services

Having a clean-looking, whiter smile is an appearance goal for many people, especially those who have stained or discolored teeth. There are effective teeth-whitening treatments available from your dentist at Oak Tree Dental if a whiter, brighter smile is a concern for you. Whitening can help yellow, brown, unevenly colored or mottled, aging, or graying teeth.

The causes of dull or stained teeth can include age, genetics, tobacco use, illness or antibiotic use, and eating and drinking foods and beverages that stain teeth. Most of the time, stained teeth are not a threat to your good dental health, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have an effect on your confidence, appearance and self-esteem. Teeth whitening offers a younger, healthy look that boosts your confidence and allows you to smile more freely.

Not everyone’s teeth are actually suitable for whitening, however. Whitening can be abrasive or harsh, and can cause damage if you have weak enamel, cracks or chips in your teeth, or unhealthy gums. We always recommend consulting your dentist before pursuing bleaching or teeth whitening.

What to Expect

If teeth whitening is right for you, skip the over-the-counter, one-size-fits-all bleaching methods, which can harm gums and teeth. Instead, sit down with your dentist for the safest, best possible results. It starts with taking impressions of your teeth so that we can perfectly fit stints, also called trays, around your teeth. The better the fit, the less whitening agent is needed to get good results, and the more even your whitening will be. These can be done for all your teeth at once, or just your upper or lower teeth if needed.

Then, we provide a dental bleaching solution that goes in the trays and will gradually brighten and whiten your teeth over the course of two weeks. It’s recommended that you wear the trays each night for about three or four hours during those two weeks, to get the best results. Typically, using the whitening stints is easy to add to your daily routine, and the trays are also clear so that they are less obtrusive.

The bleaching solution removes stains slowly from your teeth over time, and patients often can see a difference after only a few days. Once you reach your desired level of brightness, follow-up treatments can be done occasionally to keep your teeth as white as you want them.
